Industry coalition group Continua Health Alliance has selected Bluetooth low-energy wireless technology to include in its design guidelines. Once the selection is finalized, Continua plans to include the Bluetooth specification in version two of its Continua Health Alliance Design Guidelines. Bluetooth is a short-range wireless technology that offers connectivity between mobile devices and small, battery-powered devices such as sensors. It will enable low-power mobile devices such as heart rate sensors to be used to monitor health levels. The technology was selected over other wireless technologies after a 10-month review process. Continua, as well as consultants brought in from the technology and healthcare industries, considered factors such as required power levels, required range, and anticipated market penetration.
