Eastman Chemical Co. (Kingsport, TN) and DD Studio (Carlsbad, CA) have released a mobile, wireless, continuous vital signs monitoring system called ViSi Mobile by Sotera Wireless Inc. The device is a wireless device that straps to a patient’s arm to monitor vital signs and a monitoring device to keep clinicians connected to patients’ information. The ViSi Mobile leverages design flexibility, chemical resistance, and durability through Eastman’s Tritan copolyester.
PolyOne provided compatibility samples and testing results for GLS Versaflex OM 3060 TPE, which adheres to the Tritan substrate to seal the device housing. The product development team worked with Phillips Plastics Corp. (Hudson, WI) to ensure the manufacturability of the design. Phillips Plastics conducted detailed design-for-manufacturing exercise and created market-entry prototype tooling.
