SensAble Technologies (Woburn, MA) has provided haptic devices for Medaphor (Cardiff, Wales, UK), an ultrasound training company. MedaPhor’s Transvaginal ScanTrainer relies on haptic devices to enable ultrasound technicians to feel what they see on the computer screen when they follow a training module. This simulation technology helps users to develop the hand-eye coordination necessary to navigate around a patient’s anatomy. MedaPhor says that it plans to introduce related simulators for transabdominal and general ultrasound training purposes.
