Semiconductor company Texas Instruments Inc. (TI; Dallas) has acquired Luminary Micro (Austin, TX), a supplier of 32-bit microcontrollers. Luminary’s Stellaris microcontrollers enable TI to focus on mainstream 32-bit microcontroller markets and enhance its embedded processing portfolio. According to TI, this move will provide its customers with access to the general-purpose processing power of the industry-standard ARM Cortex-M3 core and the Stellaris family’s advanced communication capabilities, including 10/100 Ethernet MAC+PHY, CAN, USB On-The-Go, USB Host/Device, SSI/SPI, UARTs, I2S, and I2C. Stellaris products are used in applications that require significant control processing and connectivity capabilities, such as medical instrumentation.
