EMDT editor Norbert Sparrow says the medical electronics industry has a lot to look forward to, based on a report from InMedica. (The report, "12 Predictions for 2012 in the Medical Electronics Industry" is available for download after free registration.)
Among the key observations: Point-of-care ultrasound should see 44% growth from 2011 to 2015. In fact, InMedica says almost all mobile imaging technology will see growth. Global revenue growth for wireless mobile x-ray systems is predicted to jump double digits in 2012.
Meanwhile, it looks as though traditional imaging systems that represent capital equipment will hold steady or grow only 5% over the next five years.
This makes sense. Mobile, wireless, and cloud-based imaging is less expensive than larger traditional systems. And they could help caregivers to gain access to global diagnosticians.
