Sensor market growth is outpacing that of the semiconductor industry as a whole, thanks in part to demand from the medical device industry.
According to "Q3 Sensors and MEMs Market Tracker," a market research report from MarketResearch.com, the sensors market hit nearly $7 billion last year. The report also predicts demand for sensors will continue to grow as the products are integrated into automotive, medical electronic, and security applications.
I guess whoever wrote that report didn't place much stock in last week's New York Times article on fears by some scientists that Moore's Law might not hold up and computer chip progress might be headed for a slowdown.
