Manufactured by Numerik Jena and supplied by Heidenhain Corp., nonmagnetic LIK-series linear and RIK-series rotary encoders have been tested to withstand high-magnetic-field environments up to 6 T without influencing the machine environment. Mechanically stable, the encoders in this line can function in strong magnetic fields without loss of accuracy or resolution. The linear series features a 20-µm graduation on glass, and digital versions can output resolutions to 50 nm where the digitizing electronics reside in the connector. Three mounting configurations are available for the scanning unit. The rotary series is a kit-style bearingless rotary encoder that includes an aluminum disk with various diameters and line counts, along with nonmagnetic scanning units to match each diameter. Offered in various sizes, the disk with a 20-µm graduation can be epoxied to the customer’s hub at the factory or on the user’s premises.
