Suntron Corp. (Phoenix), a contract manufacturer serving the medical electronics market, marked 30 years of being in business with a celebration  at its Tijuana, Mexico, manufacturing facility in October.

To mark the milestone, the company held an event featuring speakers, including president and CEO Ed Wheeler and Tijuana mayor Carlos Bustamante Anchondo, and tours of the facility. A second celebration was held at the company’s Phoenix headquarters.

Earlier in October, Suntron announced plans to close its facility in Sugar Land, TX, next year.

“This action completes the repositioning we began in late 2009,” Wheeler said in a statement. “Consolidating our footprint and reducing facilities and support costs will better position us for growth within the very competitive contract manufacturing sector.”

Production will be transferred to Suntron’s other locations in Tijuana; Methuen, MA; or Phoenix, according to a press release.
