Wind River has packaged its Android expertise and technologies into three specialized software offerings: user experience, connectivity, and medical modules. This comes with the announcement of its Solution Accelerators for Android, a series of software modules that can help developers jumpstart their Android development and rapidly integrate compelling features and functionalities to their devices.
Three modules are available. First, the User Experience, consists of accelerated boot time technologies including Hyper boot, which lets devices resume from RAM in less than 1 second, and from flash memory in 8 second. It also includes multi-windowing screen navigation, multimedia functionalities, and a firmware management system that supports both online and offline update methods.
The second module, Connectivity, offers multimedia interoperability by taking advantage of the DLNA standard, SyncML support, and FM radio capabilities.
The third module, Medical, is designed to help medical device makers leverage Android’s platform richness and flexibility. This module supports the IEEE 11073 stack, the format for information exchange between personal health devices such as weight scales, blood pressure monitors, and blood oxygen monitors. The module also includes an optimized Bluetooth Health Device Protocol implementation and applications for medical sensor management and resulting data display, reporting and communication.
